gray’s campus drug

Bob Dylan moved to the Dinkytown neighborhood of Minneapolis in the fall of 1959, and attended the University of Minnesota as a journalism major for a year. One of his apartments was above a place named Gray's Campus Drug at the corner of 14th Ave S and 4th st SE. Today, the drugstore is an upscale pasta bar.
While only in Dinkytown for 15 months before moving to New York, Bob Dylan had some formative experiences here: being introduced to folk music, trading in his electric guitar for an acoustic, hearing Woody Guthrie for the first time and reading Guthrie's book, Bound for Glory.

Dylan used to perform in the theater and the lobby here.
In his book Chronicles, Volume I, Dylan recounts an encounter with professional wrestler Gorgeous George as he played piano in the lobby:
"He winked and seemed to mouth the phrase, 'You're making it come alive.' I never forgot it. It was all the recognition and encouragement I would need for years."
Moral: Be nice to kids.

This is where Bob Dylan went to high school. He formed a couple of bands while there, The Shadow Blasters and the Golden Chords.
Apparently, when Dylan's high school band covered "Rock and Roll Is Here to Stay" at their high school talent show was so loud that the principal cut the microphone off.
