How do I find content that is interesting to me?

If you are looking for something specific, you can enter search terms like an author’s name (such as Bukowski or Vonnegut), an artist’s name (such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Andy Warhol or The Ramones) or a city (such as New York or Minneapolis).

Click on the map icons to bring up a bubble with more information and click on the more link to go to a page with more details and images about that location.

New content is added at a breakneck speed. I can’t keep up.

That’s not a question, but keep in mind you can always view the newest entries for each category on the category pages, or you can subscribe to our RSS feed by clicking on the orange RSS icon if you want updates anytime someone posts a new location.

Is this website part of a larger business or corporation?

No. Popturf.com was started by two guys who are just interested in this kind of stuff, and are hoping that other people are too.

What information is required for a popturf entry?

A physical address and some details about your location. If you can give your entry context, making points of contact and reference which people can relate to, then you are a hero. Also, pictures are always nice (just make sure you credit them if they are not yours).

How do I find images for my location?

Use a camera. New and unique photos are great! If you don’t have an original image, no problem. You can search on the following websites to find Creative Commons images licensed for commercial use.

Just make sure you add an attribution to the photographer in the credit/caption box. If you want to add a link back to the photographer and you don’t know how, check out how to add links here.

Do I have to be a registered member to enter a location?

Yes, but it’s super easy. Simply enter a username and a valid email (to confirm your account), or log-in with facebook. Popturf will never sell your email or any personal information, and there is an option whether or not to receive newsletters.

How long before my entries show up on the map?

We can usually approve them within 24 hours.

Do I have to be a registered member to search on popturf?

No, enjoy the site. But if you have anything to share, we’d love to hear about it.

What are benefits to being a registered popturf member?

When you become a registered user, you can enter locations and create a user profile. After you get five popturf entries approved through the regular approval process, your future entries will post immediately upon submission.

What are those medal things on user profiles?

You can earn some flair for your profile when you submit locations. One entry will get you some bronze flair for that category. Five entries into any specific category will get you silver. Ten entries will get you gold. You can click on a user’s flair on their user page to see the list of their entries for that category.

Simply click on the username of the person who submitted the entry. You can view their interests, their website or blog links, email info (if they want to share it), and anything else they would like to share with the popturf community.

Can I print an entry?

Yes. There is a printer icon just above the map on the detail pages.

Can I donate to popturf.com?

Certainly. Contact us and we will definitely find a way to make that happen.

Do you have a blog?

Yes.

Can I contribute to your blog too?

Possibly. If you have an idea, contact us with a proposal and we will try to make it happen.

Who are you guys?

We’re Matt and Paul from Minneapolis, MN.
