where jeff buckley drowned
from jeff buckley posted in music by nevereatshreddedwheat
This is the approximate spot where Jeff Buckley waded into the Wolf River on the night of May 29, 1997. He was in Tennessee with his band that spring to resume working on his second album My Sweetheart, the Drunk. The Wolf River can be deceptive right there between downtown Memphis and the Mud Island Peninsula right before the river intersects with the Mississippi, and so Jeff Buckley, accompanied by roadie Keith Foti, wasn't thinking of the vicious undertow caused by passing boats when he walked in wearing his clothes and boots.
He sang Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" while he swam to the middle of the river. Foti, who stayed on shore, lost sight of him after a tugboat went by, and Buckley's body wasn't discovered until June 4th near a riverboat in the Mississippi. His death was ruled an accidental drowning. He was thirty years old.
the unisphere
from craig mack posted in music by nevereatshreddedwheat
In the first video for his '94 hit single 'Flava in Ya Ear', Craig Mack kicked the flava in ya ear at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, home of the 1964/1965 New York World's Fair. 'Flava in Ya Ear' was the first release from Sean 'Puff Daddy' Combs' label Bad Boy Entertainment. The remix (with its own video shot on some boring sound stage) featured an early appearance by Notorious B.I.G. and a solo Busta Rhymes.
The theme of the 1964/1965 New York World's Fair was "Peace Through Understanding" represented by the iconic Unisphere, a 12-story high, stainless steel earth designed to celebrate the beginning of the space age.
where biggie smalls was shot and killed
from the notorious b.i.g. posted in music by nevereatshreddedwheat
Biggie Smalls was shot in a drive-by at the intersection of Fairfax Ave and Wilshire Blvd on March 9, 1997 after leaving a Vibe Magazine party in Los Angeles with his entourage. They were able to drive to nearby Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. His second studio album, a double disc set called Life After Death, was released fifteen days later on March 25.
Just like Tupac Shakur's death in Las Vegas the year before, the murder of Biggie Smalls remains unsolved.
