Art Garfunkel, the son of housewife Rose and traveling salesman Jacob "Jack" Garfunkel was born on November 5, 1941.
He lived in this home in Queens, three blocks away from future performing partner, Paul Simon. The two met in grade school at PS 164 and attended Parsons Junior High School and Forest Hills High School together.

The Simon family moved to this home from Newark, NJ in 1945. Paul Simon's father, Louis Simon, was a college professor, upright bass player, and dance bandleader. His mother, Belle (1910–2007), was an elementary school teacher.
Paul Simon's musical career began after meeting Art Garfunkel when they were both 11. They performed in a production of Alice in Wonderland for their sixth grade graduation.

Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel grew up in the same predominantly Jewish neighborhood Kew Gardens Hills, Queens, New York, just three blocks away from each other.
Friends throughout childhood, the two attended Parsons Junior High School together before they both went to Forest Hills High School.
Parsons Junior High School closed in 2007 and reopened as two schools: the Robert F. Kennedy Middle School and the Queens School of Inquiry.
