segs 3-7 (kramer junction)
from gattaca posted in movies by pete_nice
This solar thermal plant uses parabolic troughs to generate heat, then steam, then power.
It was featured in the 1997 film Gattaca when Uma Therman and Ethan Hawke have a wildly romantic night out together and end up at a 150-megawatt solar power plant that can generate about 354 megawatts at peak output. Hot stuff.

Finbar McBride (Peter Dinklage) inherits this abandoned train depot in Newfoundland, NJ in the 2003 film The Station Agent.
The indie producers had to rough up the exterior with crackle paint for the film, but the original structure from 1872 still stands.
dolby theatre
from academy awards, oscars posted in movies by pete_nice
Since 2002, the Academy Awards have been held annually at this venue. Constructed in 2001 as the Kodak Theatre, the facility briefly changed its name to the Hollywood and Highland Center Theatre after Kodak filed for bankruptcy. The theatre was renamed Dolby Theatre in 2012 with a 20-year deal with Dolby Laboratories. You can learn all about the other corporations that support Hollywood by watching the 2 hours of commercials during the award ceremony.
The theater has one of the largest stages in the world at 13 ft (34 m) wide and 60 ft (18 m) deep. It was designed by David Rockwell, a NY-based architect and stage designer. Notably, his group also did the interior work in the jetBlue terminal at JFK International Airport.
sealand of the pacific (former)
from blackfish (2013) posted in movies by pete_nice
The outdoor marine park named Sealand of the Pacific was located at the Oak Bay Marina in South Oak Bay, Vancouver. One of its main attractions was the orca ("killer whale") show.
In February of 1991, an animal trainer drowned during an orca show at the facility. According to the 2013 documentary film Blackfish, the orca named Tilikum pulled the trainer into the water. The park folded later that year, and the remaining orcas were sold to SeaWorld Orlando.
Description of the facilities and treatment of the orcas were theorized as reasons for Tilikum's behavior, which are discussed in detail in the film.
