914 Sound Studios was a recording studio in Blauvelt, New York during the 1970s. Created by Brooks Arthur, it was his idea to create a high-quality studio where artists could record at reasonable rates.
Bruce Springsteen recorded here in 1972 for tracks that would end up "Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J." The Ramones recorded their demo here in 1975.
The number 914 is the area code for Blauvelt.

Joey Ramone lived at these apartments with his mother and brother. He recalls the experience as being an influence for the song "Beat on the Brat":
"There was a playground with women sitting around and a kid screaming, a spoiled, horrible kid just running around rampant with no discipline whatsoever. The kind of kid you just want to kill. You know, 'beat on the brat with a baseball bat' just came out. I just wanted to kill him."- Joey Ramone

Put out by Sire Records, the Ramones self-titled debut was recorded in one week for $6,400. The producer was Craig Leon, and Tommy Ramone was listed as "associate producer."
max’s kansas city
from the ramones, the velvet underground, new york dolls posted in music by donkeyoti
Max's Kansas City was a music venue and bar in NYC from 1961 to 1985. It was a hangout for artists and celebrities, and a venue that supported the emerging glam rock scene. The Velvet Underground played their last shows here in the summer of 1970. The New York Dolls played here frequently, and had a direct influence on the formation of the Ramones, who also played here.
According to wikipedia, the name stems from the following: "All the steakhouses had Kansas City on the menu because the best steak was Kansas City-cut, so I thought it should be 'something Kansas City'. 'Max' was chosen because it sounded "restauranty."
art garden II
from the ramones posted in music by donkeyoti
Joey Ramone's mother, Charlotte, ran an art gallery called the Art Garden II adjacent to the old Trylon Cinema on Queens Blvd. The art gallery served as the practice space for the Ramones in their earliest days. "Mama Ramone" (as Charlotte was later called) was something of a matriarch for the Ramones and the fledging scene in those days, and was an advocate for the Ramones until her death in 2007.
