bonnie and clyde’s hideout
from bonnie and clyde, american outlaws posted in history by donkeyoti
For twelve days in 1933, neighbors witnessed suspicious activity at this apartment above the two-car garage on the corner of 34th St and Oak Ridge Drive in Joplin, MO. The Barrow Gang (Bonnie Parker, Clyde Barrow, brother Buck Barrow and his wife, Blanche Barrow) played cards and drank here between robberies in Missouri and the surrounding states. Clyde accidentally set off his Browning automatic rifle here while cleaning.
On April 13, 1933, a group of five law enforcement officers surrounded the building, thinking they were about to break up a bootlegging ring. Bonnie and Clyde and the Barrow Gang shot their way out, killing two officers.
Behind they left most of their possessions, including an undeveloped roll of film that produced the iconic cigar-smoking Bonnie photos.

Lee Harvey Oswald and his wife, Marina, were renting the upstairs apartment of this duplex at the time of the Kennedy assassination.
In the backyard, Marina took a picture of Lee Harvey with a rifle that was widely circulated after the event. Conspiracy theorists note that the shadow on Oswald's face appears to be at noon, while the remaining shadows appear to be in the afternoon.
Oswald was separated from Marina at the time of the JFK assassination and was living at 1026 North Beckley Avenue.

After Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested at the Texas Theatre on November 22, 1963, he was interrogated and jailed here for two days.
On November 24, Oswald was being escorted to a more secure facility through the basement exit when Jack Ruby shot him. It was the first televised assassination.
Today, the building houses municipal courts and the University of North Texas at Dallas College of Law.

Originally opened and operated by aviator-mogul Howard Hughes in 1931, the Texas Theatre is famous for being the location where Lee Harvey Oswald was apprehended after wounding Texas Governor John Connally and killing JFK and Dallas Officer J.D. Tippit.
Oswald ran into the theater without paying for a ticket after shooting J.D. Tippit nearby. He sat in the fifth seat from the aisle in the third to last row. The seat location is now marked with gold lettering (not the actual seat- that one was brought home by the owner before the FBI got there). Oswald was watching the 1962 film War is Hell when the police arrived.
Today, the Texas Theatre is an independent and repertory cinema.

At about 1:11 p.m. on November 23, 1963, Officer J.D. Tippit of the Dallas P.D. was driving slowly eastward on East 10th Street (about 100 feet past the intersection of 10th Street and Patton Avenue) when he saw a man who matched the description of the presidential assassin.
Tippit got out of his car after exchanging words with Lee Harvey Oswald through the window, and Oswald pulled out a handgun and shot him three times in the chest. Then Oswald then walked up to the fallen officer and shot him in the head. Tippit died at the scene.
Oswald fled the scene and ran into the nearby Texas Theatre without buying a ticket.
