großer windkanal
from aeon flux, hanna posted in movies by chewing_the_scenery
Berlin's Großer Windkanal (or large wind tunnel) was built in the early 1930s as an aerodynamic testing facility for German aircraft. It's located on Humboldt University's campus at Adlershof along with four other buildings that were used to test aircraft in an area they now call Aerodynamischer Park.
The Windkanal was used as a backdrop in both Aeon Flux from 2005 and Hanna from 2011. In Hanna, this is the building she escapes from when she is first captured. I have no idea what it was used for in Aeon Flux (never saw it), but it's featured prominently on one version of the movie poster.
burj khalifa
from mission: impossible - ghost protocol posted in movies by chewing_the_scenery
Tom Cruise did his own stunts for Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, swinging around outside across the windows of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai a.k.a the world's tallest building. I guess it's possible director Brad Bird, whose previous films (Ratatouille, The Incredibles, The Iron Giant) were all animated, had never heard of a green screen.
the house of the devil

This is the house of the devil in Ti West's 1980s throwback horror movie The House of the Devil. The Victorian house is near Lime Rock Park. The weird goings-on at the hotel where Ti West and the crew stayed in nearby Torrington, Connecticut while shooting this film inspired his next movie The Innkeepers about a haunted hotel.
comedy cellar
from louie posted in television by chewing_the_scenery
Louis C.K. shot the stand-up interludes for his tv show Louie at the Comedy Cellar in Manhattan's Greenwich Village. If you want to eat like he does in the show's opening, you can stuff your face with a slice at Ben's Pizzeria around the corner on 3rd Street and MacDougal.
the johnson inn
from beautiful girls posted in movies by chewing_the_scenery
If Hollywood stopped making movies about high school reunions and the big city guy returning to his small hometown, I don't think anyone would care. Stillwater, Minnesota was turned into Knights Ridge, Massachusetts, the fictional small hometown in Beautiful Girls. Tommy (Matt Dillon), Paul (Michael Rapaport) and two other guys whose faces (but not their names) you would recognize have never left this fictional small town and drink frequently at The Johnson Inn.
The Marine General Store on the St. Croix north of Stillwater was used as the exterior of their favorite bar. The interior scenes were shot at Winfield Potters, a former restaurant in St. Anthony Main in Minneapolis.
