The Bag of Nails pub was a legendary rock venue/celebrity hangout in the 1960s.
Jimi Hendrix played his first gig in London here. It's also wear he met the guitar tech wiz Roger Mayer. Mayer introduced Hendrix to the Octavia, a sound pedal he had invented that added an octave overtone to the original note. Hendrix loved the sound and used it on the solo for "Purple Haze." Mayer became Hendrix's sound technician.
Paul McCartney met Linda on May 15, 1967 at the Bag of Nails while watching Georgie Fame & the Blue Flames perform. Fleetwood Mac's John and Christine McVie first met at this pub as well.
Today, the location is a private member's club named Miranda.

Nancy Thompson fights off Freddy Krueger's glove of knives at this location in the original A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984).
The house was in disrepair until 2006, when it was renovated. Today, the exterior is very similar to the original film, except now the door is blood red instead of blue. Nice touch...

Back in 1962, this was the campus for the Syracuse wing of General Electric. Constructed in 1945-1946, the original buildings housed a number of research facilities.
In 1962 at Electronics Laboratory Building #3, Nick Holonyak did the initial work and created the first light emitting diode (or LED). Fifty years later, the LED light bulb is now the most energy efficient light bulb on the market: LED light bulbs take 6-8 watts to power, versus 60 watts for an incandescent and 13-15 for a comparable CFL. Also, they are supposed to last for 10 million years.

Opened from May 28, 1966, and closed in the 1970s, the Cheetah Club was a disco and venue. The musical Hair got its start here, and so did the dance craze known as salsa.
Jimi Hendrix was playing shows here in 1966 when Keith Richards's girlfriend, Linda Keith, saw him perform. She told Chas Chandler (former bass player for the Animals) about him, and Chandler became Hendrix's manager, moved him to England, and helped him form The Jimi Hendrix Experience.
1970 isle of wight festival
from isle of wight, jimi hendrix posted in music by pete_nice
From August 26-31, 1970, anywhere from 500,000 to 800,000 people descended on the small hill of Afton Down, near the village of Freshwater, on the western end of the Isle of Wight to watch the third Isle of Wight Festival.
Coming the year after Woodstock, the 1970 festival boasted a line-up that included The Doors, The Who, Miles Davis, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, Donovan, Sly & the Family Stone, Kris Kristofferson, Leonard Cohen and the star of the festival, Jimi Hendrix.
The location was visually magnificent but ill-suited for a concert: the wind from the sea blew the sound from the audience and the stage was overlooked by a large hill that made it a virtually free concert to anybody who didn't have a ticket.
