At the corner of Reeperbahn and Große Freiheit streets in St. Pauli quarter of Hamburg is a plaza dedicated to the Beatles time in Hamburg. Black and circular to symbolically represent a vinyl record, the plaza is 29 m (95 ft) in diameter. Surrounding the plaza are steel outline structures to represent John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Stuart Sutcliffe, and a combined Pete Best/Ringo Starr drummer. The structure was completed on September 1, 2008

On June 22, 1961, the Beatles drove with Tony Sheridan of the Hurricanes to Hamburg-Harburg (a suburb of Hamburg) to record at the Freidrich-Ebert Hall. They were paid 330 Deutschmarks (around $75) to back-up Sheridan on his recording of "My Bonnie".
The single was released as 'Tony Sheridan and Beat Brothers' on October 31, 1961 on Polydor Records. It was released in the U.K. on January 5, 1962, and saw limited release in the U.S. on Decca Records.
The Beatles received a one-year contract from Polydor Records based on the strength of this record at their first session on June 22, 1961.

Opened in May 2009, this is a museum conceived as a "Beatles experience".
It is located in the St. Pauli district, near the Beatles-Platz and the Große Freiheit, location of the clubs in which the Beatles played during their formative Hamburg period in the early '60s.
