"Penny Lane" is one side of a single that was released in February 1967. The other side was "Strawberry Fields Forever." It was later released on the Magical Mystery Tour LP.

The song references several local landmarks: the shelter in the roundabout, the fire station (down the road), the barbershop.

Written by McCartney and credited Lennon-McCartney, the two would meet at the bus stop at Penny Lane to catch a ride downtown. There is a sign at the bus stop that is something of a Beatles fan landmark.
