folsom state prison
from johnny cash posted in music by pete_nice
Opened in 1880, Folsom State Prison is the second-oldest prison in the state of California.
On Dec. 15, 1955, Sun Records released "Folsom Prison Blues", written and performed by Johnny Cash. It went to #4 on the Country Western chart. The song's melody and many of the lyrics borrowed heavily from Gordon Jenkins's 1953 Seven Dreams concept album, specifically the song "Crescent City Blues". In the early 1970s, Cash settled with Jenkins for a $75,000 payment.
Cash performed two shows at Folsom State Prison on January 13, 1968. He was backed by June Carter (whom he married later that year), Carl Perkins, and the Tennessee Three. The shows were recorded and released on Columbia Records as "At Folsom Prison" in May of 1968.
Cash's career had hit a wall from 1964-1968, due in part to drug addiction. By 1967, he had controlled his addiction and was looking to revitalize his career. At Folsom Prison was a hit record, reaching #1 on the CW charts and the top 15 of the national chart.

Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark is the most expensive Broadway production ever performed. It features music and lyrics written by Bono and the Edge. Since its creation, it has seen a number of cast injuries from the aerial "web" stunts; at one point, an actor fell 20 ft down into the orchestra pit.
However, Spiderman: The Musical marches on, so get your ticket before it becomes an early 21st century anecdote.

The beginning portion of the 1989 film Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was filmed at Arches National Park in Utah.
The rugged terrain and unique rock structures are a national treasure, at least until we have to sell them to avoid marginal tax increases.
treasure island
from indiana jones and the last crusade posted in movies by pete_nice
This former naval base has been the filming location for many different films and tv shows.
The Treasure Island Naval Base served as the Zeppelin Airport in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
The Robin Williams' films Flubber, What Dreams May Come, Patch Adams and Bicentennial Man were all filmed on this island. The "bullet-time" sequences for The Matrix were filmed in the former air hangers here.
And for three seasons, the Comedy Central show Battlebots was filmed here. This show will undoubtedly be projected on enormous screens in the future, as our robot overlords force humans to fight each other to the death for their amusement.
