nirvana unplugged location
from nirvana posted in music by elvis_crabs
On November 18, 1993, Nirvana taped an acoustic performance for the tv series MTV Unplugged at Sony Music Studios in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan. The session differed from other Unplugged sessions in that there were a number of covers (six total) and the band did not play their hit songs.
Guitarist Pat Smear (The Germs, Foo Fighters) and cellist Lori Goldston had been touring with the band and performed during the session. The Meat Puppets sat in as guests for three of their songs covered by Nirvana.
The taping aired on MTV in December of 1993. Cobain was found dead in April of 1994, and the Unplugged session was released as an album in November of 1994.
The building was sold in November 2007 for $44 million, and it has since been razed and replaced by luxury condos.
café des artistes (former)

Although the 1981 film My Dinner with André was shot on a soundstage, the set was modeled after the historic fine dining establishment Café des Artistes. A favorite of upscale bohemians because of its hip seclusion, the former restaurant closed in 2009.
The new restaurant, The Leopard at des Artistes, still retains the original murals done by artist Howard Chandler Christy. If you go there, you have to talk about transcendental experiences and the myopic insanity of modern society.

In the first video for his '94 hit single 'Flava in Ya Ear', Craig Mack kicked the flava in ya ear at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, home of the 1964/1965 New York World's Fair. 'Flava in Ya Ear' was the first release from Sean 'Puff Daddy' Combs' label Bad Boy Entertainment. The remix (with its own video shot on some boring sound stage) featured an early appearance by Notorious B.I.G. and a solo Busta Rhymes.
The theme of the 1964/1965 New York World's Fair was "Peace Through Understanding" represented by the iconic Unisphere, a 12-story high, stainless steel earth designed to celebrate the beginning of the space age.

On August 11, 1973, Cindy Campbell threw a party in the rec room of 1520 Sedgwick Ave in the Bronx. Her brother DJ Kool Herc was behind the turntables at this 'back to school jam.' It cost the fellas $.50 for admission and the ladies ♥ got in for a quarter.
New York state officials declared this location the Birthplace of Hip-Hop in 2007.

Method Man, Raekwon and Inspectah Deck all lived in Staten Island's Park Hill Apartments. Inspectah Deck lived in 160, the building in the video for 'Protect Ya Neck. Definitely check it out if you are in the area... I hear it's nice.
