kronk gym

from out of sight posted in movies by chewing_the_scenery

The scene in Out of Sight where Jack and Buddy finally make it to Detroit and meet up again with Glenn and Maurice (my all-time favorite Don Cheadle performance) was filmed at the legendary Kronk boxing gym. For the shoot, they moved the training facility upstairs from the windowless basement.

Thomas Hearns, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis and many other world champs all trained here at one time. It's been closed since 2006.

This is where all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

manitoba royal theater

from keanu reeves posted in movies by elvis_crabs

The Reeve-ster (or K-Pax, or K-Wood) played Hamlet at this theater in 1995. It was something of a cultural event for Winnipeg, and the show sold-out every night. The city set up a Keanu hotline where they could call with sightings of the actor.

Most people thought he would be horrible, yet he received positive (if not glowing) praise for arguably one of the toughest acting roles.

Well done, K-Swiss.
