from somewhere in time posted in movies by ratsnamgod
The site of filming for this movie, starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour.
The hotel has been designated as one of the "Historic Hotels of America" and features the world's longest porch.
Fans, often in period costumes, celebrate the film here each October.
bed-stuy neighborhood block
from do the right thing, public enemy posted in movies by nevereatshreddedwheat
Both Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing and the video for Public Enemy's "Fight the Power" that he directed were both filmed on Stuyvesant Avenue between Lexington and Quincy in Brooklyn's Bed-Stuy neighborhood. Sal's Pizzeria and the Korean grocery were both sets built for the movie.
The "Bed-Stuy Do or Die" mural that was painted for the movie on the corner of Stuyvesant and Lexington Avenues is almost entirely faded and mostly obstructed by a newer building.
"Fight the Power" was written by Public Enemy for the movie and was originally on the Do the Right Thing soundtrack.

pepto-bismal palace
from shut up little man! - an audio misadventure posted in movies by ratsnamgod
In 1987, Eddie Lee Sausage and Mitchell D. moved into this apartment building, next door to roommates Peter Haskett (an openly homosexual man) and Raymond Huffman (an openly homophobic man). Eddie and Mitch recorded the frequent alcohol-fueled arguments of Pete and Ray, inspiring comic books, plays, and films.
großer windkanal
from aeon flux, hanna posted in movies by chewing_the_scenery
Berlin's Großer Windkanal (or large wind tunnel) was built in the early 1930s as an aerodynamic testing facility for German aircraft. It's located on Humboldt University's campus at Adlershof along with four other buildings that were used to test aircraft in an area they now call Aerodynamischer Park.
The Windkanal was used as a backdrop in both Aeon Flux from 2005 and Hanna from 2011. In Hanna, this is the building she escapes from when she is first captured. I have no idea what it was used for in Aeon Flux (never saw it), but it's featured prominently on one version of the movie poster.
burj khalifa
from mission: impossible - ghost protocol posted in movies by chewing_the_scenery
Tom Cruise did his own stunts for Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, swinging around outside across the windows of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai a.k.a the world's tallest building. I guess it's possible director Brad Bird, whose previous films (Ratatouille, The Incredibles, The Iron Giant) were all animated, had never heard of a green screen.
