Much of The Dark Knight, the second part of Nolan's Batman trilogy, was filmed in Chicago. The former Brach’s candy factory on Chicago's West Side, which shut down in 2003, was used for the exterior of Gotham General Hospital, and it's the administration building that we see getting demolished for the sequence when the Joker blows it up.
state theatre

When the State Theatre opened in 1921, it was considered one of the most technologically advanced and elaborate theatre in the United States. Designed by architect J.E.O Pridmore in a free Italian Renaissance style, it featured a well-driven air conditioning system and a stage made of glass that allowed for dramatic lighting underneath.
In 2012, Lewis Black recorded a performance here for the TV movie, In God We Rust. I watched ten minutes of it and didn't laugh, so I turned it off.

A Pullman porter turned homesteader turned novelist and pioneer filmmaker, Oscar Micheaux lived a storied life.
One of the many chapters of his life happened here, in Gregory, SD. Micheaux was the only African American to purchase a relinquishment claim on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in 1904.
He fictionalized his experience in his best-selling novel The Homesteader, which later became the first film written, directed and produced by an African American (The Homesteader, released 1918). The film was shot in and around Gregory, SD. Micheaux went on to contribute to 44 films.
Today, the Oscar Micheaux center holds a semi-annual Oscar Micheaux Film and Book Festival to celebrate his work.
johnie’s coffee shop

Not to be confused with the popular filming location Johnie’s Broiler, Johnie's Coffee Shop in Los Angeles is also an example of the futuristic Googie style of architecture that dates back to the 1950s.
It was featured most prominently in Miracle Mile when Anthony Edwards takes a random phone call in the phone booth outside and learns about an upcoming nuclear war.
It's also where Tim Roth (Mr. Orange/Freddy) meets with his supervisor Holdaway in Reservoir Dogs after he gets on the inside with Joe's crew and where Walter and The Dude talk about the severed toe in The Big Lebowski.
Other movies where you can see the restaurant, which closed in 2000, are Volcano, American History X, City of Angels, Very Bad Things and probably many more.
toluca substation
from reservoir dogs posted in movies by chewing_the_scenery
In Reservoir Dogs, Freddy / Mr. Orange rehearses part of his drug story in front of L.A.'s Toluca Substation. The substation, and the Belmont Tunnel next to it, dates back to the 1920s, leftover from the Pacific Electric Railway line that ran from downtown Los Angeles to Westlake. You can find the tunnel (now sealed) and the substation (now cleared of the graffiti) behind the Belmont Station Apartments that were completed in 2008.
