On June 22, 1961, the Beatles drove with Tony Sheridan of the Hurricanes to Hamburg-Harburg (a suburb of Hamburg) to record at the Freidrich-Ebert Hall. They were paid 330 Deutschmarks (around $75) to back-up Sheridan on his recording of "My Bonnie".

The single was released as 'Tony Sheridan and Beat Brothers' on October 31, 1961 on Polydor Records. It was released in the U.K. on January 5, 1962, and saw limited release in the U.S. on Decca Records.

The Beatles received a one-year contract from Polydor Records based on the strength of this record at their first session on June 22, 1961.
