nirvana unplugged location
from nirvana posted in music by elvis_crabs
On November 18, 1993, Nirvana taped an acoustic performance for the tv series MTV Unplugged at Sony Music Studios in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan. The session differed from other Unplugged sessions in that there were a number of covers (six total) and the band did not play their hit songs.
Guitarist Pat Smear (The Germs, Foo Fighters) and cellist Lori Goldston had been touring with the band and performed during the session. The Meat Puppets sat in as guests for three of their songs covered by Nirvana.
The taping aired on MTV in December of 1993. Cobain was found dead in April of 1994, and the Unplugged session was released as an album in November of 1994.
The building was sold in November 2007 for $44 million, and it has since been razed and replaced by luxury condos.
café des artistes (former)

Although the 1981 film My Dinner with André was shot on a soundstage, the set was modeled after the historic fine dining establishment Café des Artistes. A favorite of upscale bohemians because of its hip seclusion, the former restaurant closed in 2009.
The new restaurant, The Leopard at des Artistes, still retains the original murals done by artist Howard Chandler Christy. If you go there, you have to talk about transcendental experiences and the myopic insanity of modern society.

George Harrison's family moved to this location in 1950.
While initially a good student, he had an epiphany while riding his bike around. He heard the Elvis tune "Heartbreak Hotel" coming out of a window and was hooked. He directed his energy into music instead of schoolwork after that.
Harrison and McCartney became friends in 1954. After Harrison showed Lennon how he could play the song "Raunchy" in 1958, he became a member of John Lennon's early band, The Quarrymen.
