one on one bike studio
from factotum posted in movies by crabapple
In the basement of One on One Bike Studio, they used to have a place affectionately called "the bike graveyard." I don't know if it is still there, but there were rows of bikes packed floor to ceiling. I got some sweet handlebars there for less than $10.
This location was used for the scene in Factotum when Chinaski (Matt Dillon) rails against the bike store owner.
Best line: "I gave you my time. And that's all any man has..."
palmer’s bar
from factotum posted in movies by crabapple
This bar was a location for a scene in Factotum. In the scene, Chinaski (Matt Dillon) tracks down Jan (Lili Taylor) to a watering hole, then slaps her to the ground. A very lovable protagonist...
*Side note: Sitting next to Jan at the bar is local legend Spider John Koerner: 12-string guitar hero, respected folk musician, story-teller, and humorist.

former 9th and hennepin building
from factotum posted in movies by crabapple
The site of several scenes in the movie Factotum, the building at 9th and Hennepin used to be a low-rent apartment building. The cage between the counter and lobby area was already there. Rooms were rented by the week, and there was a pornography shop in the basement.
This building is reportedly where Tom Waits lived when he stayed in Minneapolis, and is referenced by his song, "9th and Hennepin."
Today, it has been completely renovated and is a boutique hotel and an upscale restaurant.
