poe museum
from edgar allan poe posted in literature by prof_improbable
Established in 1922, the Museum of Edgar Allan Poe commemorates the writer's time in the Richmond area. Built in 1740, the building where the museum is housed is the oldest original building in Richmond.
The museum holds one of the world's largest collections of original manuscripts, letters, first editions, memorabilia and personal belongings.
The museum is only blocks away from the sites of Poe's Richmond homes and place of employment, the Southern Literary Messenger. In fact, much of the brick work in the garden area is done with bricks from the former building that housed the Messenger.
