Although Nelly was raised in the University City suburb of St. Louis, the muscle car-filled street party in the video for his debut single "Country Grammar" was filmed in North St. Louis near the intersection of Labadie Ave and Marcus Ave looking east.

cicero’s basement bar

Open and operating for over 25 years as a music venue, the basement of Cicero's has been instrumental in the development of alt-country music.

The band Uncle Tupelo (Jeff Tweedy, Jay Farrar, and Mike Heidorn) played many shows in the late 80s at Cicero's Basement Bar.

new masonic temple

Built in 1921, the New Masonic Temple in St. Louis has a prestigious history.

Then-Senator and Free Mason Grand Master Harry Truman had an office here before he became president. Charles Lindbergh was initiated here before he crossed the Atlantic in the Spirit of St. Louis. And Ernest Borgnine (also a mason) filmed a scene on the steps of the temple for the John Carpenter film Escape from New York (1980).

If you are interested in buying a piece of history, the New Masonic Temple is up for sale for $6 million (as of Dec. 14, 2014).

He lived here for two years until his father moved his dental practice and the family to East St. Louis.
