The music venue/bar known as A7 Annex was located at the corner of 2nd Ave and 1st St (near Houston) in the Lower East Side. It was another fixture of the NY hardcore scene in the early 80's, when several hardcore bands played at this location- the Beastie Boys, Reagan Youth, The Mob, Kraut, Meatmen, and more. The building no longer exists.

Today, the building that housed A7 is now Niagara Bar. It features a mural of Joe Strummer on the exterior.

A7 was the unofficial headquarters for the New York hardcore scene from 1981 to 1984. Located at the corner of Avenue A and E. 7th St in the East Village, A7 lacked a liquor license and was constantly raided by the police. The club was staffed by members of the NY hardcore scene, including Raybeez of Agnostic Front and Warzone, and Jimmy Gestapo of Murphy's Law.
The Beastie Boys got their start here, back when they were a hardcore punk band. Other bands that frequented the location include The Violators, Minor Threat, SS Decontrol, The Eliminators, Power Trip, False Prophets and more.

Beastie Boy MCA (Adam Yauch) went to high school at Edward R. Murrow High School in the Midwood neighborhood in Brooklyn. While in high school, Yauch taught himself to play bass and became involved in the punk scene of New York.
MCA formed a hardcore punk band named the Beastie Boys with John Berry (guitar), Kate Schellenbach (later with Luscious Jackson), and Mike D. They played their first show on MCA's 17th birthday- August 5, 1981.
