aero theatre
from donnie darko posted in movies by chewing_the_scenery
Here's the Aero theatre in Santa Monica where Jena Malone sleeps through her entire date with Donnie Darko and where Frank wormholes his way in next to them and finally reveals himself.
Donnie: Why are you wearing that stupid bunny suit?
Frank: Why are you wearing that stupid man suit?
The theatre was built by the Douglas Aircraft Company in 1940 and the possibly apocryphal (is that redundant?) story is that it was open 24 hours for the Douglas Aircraft employees working around the clock during the war. It's still open and had a restoration in 2005.
la belle aurore
from looper posted in movies by chewing_the_scenery
Most of Looper was filmed in New Orleans and nearby Thibodaux, Louisiana (and some in not so nearby Shanghai China).
Rian Johnson has said that he stole Joe's character arc from Rick's arc in Casablanca, so it's fitting that he also borrows La Belle Aurore from Casablanca as well. It's the name of the café in Paris where Rick and Ilsa last see each other before the Nazis invade.
The exterior for the club La Belle Aurore where the loopers hang out in Looper was shot on Rampart St.
jackie treehorn’s house

When the Dude finds himself face-to-face with the pornographer Jackie Treehorn, it's at this location.
The home, also known as the Sheats-Goldstein House, was designed and built from 1961-1963 by American architect John Lautner. Located in the hills of the Beverly Crest neighborhood, the home's use of the Organic Architecture style was built into the sandstone cliffs and meant to evoke a cave-like dwelling.
The home has appeared in the films The Big Lebowski (1998), Bandits (2001), and Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle (2003).

Located three blocks from the beach in the Venice neighborhood of Los Angeles, the Dude's cottage is one of a series of six on a quarter-acre lot that were constructed in 1928.
When The Big Lebowski came out in 1998, the area was much seedier (read: affordable) than it is today. The cottages were listed on the market in 2011 for $2,295,000.
lakewood fairgrounds
from smokey and the bandit posted in movies by pete_nice
Built in 1916 on 117 acres of former Creek Indian land around a 15-acre lake, the Lakewood Fairgrounds were constructed for the home of the Southeastern Fair: an area that contained a circus big top, arcade games, vendors, and a large carousel that remained on the premises until 1967.
The fairgrounds were featured extensively in the 1977 film Smokey and the Bandit, including the beginning and the ending of the film, the "Truck Rodeo" drag race, the Bandit on his hammock, the gate crashing scene, and the "Southern Classic Race."
For the second Smokey sequel, the film crew returned to the fairgrounds to incorporate the destruction of the wooden roller coaster, the Greyhound, as part of the film.
Today, EUE/Screen Gems is building a studio complex on the grounds for tv and film production.
