target

from career opportunities posted in movies by chewing_the_scenery

This is the former Target location where the early-90s not-classic Career Opportunities was filmed. In case you missed this one, Frank Whaley, during his first shift as night janitor, gets locked in Target overnight with Jennifer Connelly.

Before Target moved out of this building, they hosted Career Opportunities night once a year featuring roller skating and where fans of the movie (men wearing 'Darnell' jumpsuits and women with heavy eyebrows) would slow dance next to the aquariums.*

*I made that up. There are no fans of this ridiculous movie.

The "Boneyard" was also featured in the films My Science Project (1985), The Wraith (1986), and Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen (2009). Some of the planes from Top Gun are supposedly stored here.

cameron’s house

from ferris bueller’s day off posted in movies by chewing_the_scenery

In Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Cameron lived in this modernist, glass-walled house in Highland Park, Illinois built by architect James Speyer for Ben Rose and his wife in 1953. The pavilion known as the Ben Rose Auto Museum that held Cameron's dad's Ferrari was built by David Haid who, like Speyer, had studied under Mies van der Rohe.

For the movie's finale, they really did crash the Ferrari out the window on a special track that kept the pavilion from being demolished. In 2009, the house was on the market for 1.65 million. No word on whether it sold.

del amo mall

from jackie brown posted in movies by chewing_the_scenery

The money exchange in Tarantino's Jackie Brown takes place at Torrance, California's Del Amo Mall (or Del Amo Fashion Center® as it is now called), specifically a store called Billingsley's that isn't real. The mall is billed in the movie as the largest indoor mall in the world, although since Jackie Brown takes place in 1995, the Mall of America in Minneapolis had already taken over that distinction in 1992.

Frank Black grew up in the area, and his love song to the Del Amo Mall, "The Hostess with the Mostest," is on his second album Teenager of the Year.
