rowden hill
from eddie cochran posted in music by tacopolis
On April 16, 1960, rock legend Eddie Cochran was traveling in a cab from Bristol to London with his fiancée Sharon Sheeley, Gene Vincent, and Patrick Thompkins.
At about 11:50 pm, the speeding taxi blew a tire just after the viaduct, just before Rowden Hill. The taxi lost control, and slammed into a light post. Cochran attempted to shield his fiancée and was thrown from the car, sustaining massive head injuries.
Cochran was taken to nearby St. Martin's Hospital in Bath where he died the next day. Today, there is a memorial marker dedicated to Cochran at the spot where the accident occurred.

wake forest baptist medical center
from doc watson posted in music by pete_nice
Doc (Arthel Lane) Watson, bluegrass legend and master of the flatpicking guitar technique, died at the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center on May 29, 2012. Doc had fallen earlier in the week, and was undergoing treatment; he was 89 years old.
Doc Watson had lost his vision due to an eye infection before the first grade. He lived in the Deep Gap, North Carolina region, and bought his first guitar from Sears Roebuck with money he made from cutting down chestnut trees (and selling them to a tannery). He lived through the folk revival of the 1960s, and received the National Medal of Arts from U.S. president Bill Clinton in 1987. So in other words, the guy is pretty much a legend.
His refined technique helped usher in the era of guitar as a lead instrument, for better or worse. Doc Watson's Gallagher guitar is on display at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, TN.

New York-Presbyterian Hospital is where Joey Ramone (aka Jeffry Ross Hyman) died on April 15, 2001 after a seven-year battle with lymphoma.
He was reportedly listening to the song "In a Little While" by U2 when he died. Bono would later say that Joey Ramone had turned a song about a lovesick hangover into a gospel song.
monona terrace
from otis redding, frank lloyd wright posted in music by pete_nice
Overlooking Lake Monona in Madison, WI is the Monona Terrace. Originally designed by Frank Lloyd Wright (a Wisconsin native), it was rejected by a single vote in 1938. Wright continued to alter and refine his plan for the terrace until he died in 1959.
Plans for the terrace were resurrected in 1990, and the project was completed in 1997.
On top of the terrace is a memorial to the soul singer Otis Redding. On December 10, 1967, Redding was flying to Madison with his Stax Records backing group, the Bar-Kays, when their plane crashed into the icy waters of Lake Monona. Except for one member of the Bar-Kays, everyone aboard the plane died.
The crash came three days after Redding had recorded "Sitting On the Dock of the Bay," which would become his first #1 hit song. He was 26 years old.
