Although the city where it is supposed to take place is never named, the Coen brothers filmed their 1990 movie Miller's Crossing in New Orleans.
Barton Arms, the name of Tom's apartment, is a nod to Barton Fink which they wrote during a three-week break they took while writing the Miller's Crossing screenplay. This is the exterior filming location only. The apartment interior was shot on a set.

Dwight Henry plays the father role, Wink, in the film Beasts of the Southern Wild. The film was his first major acting role; Henry is a baker and business owner by trade. The Buttermilk Drop Bakery and Cafe is where he sells the recipes he's been perfecting for the past twenty years.
la belle aurore
from looper posted in movies by chewing_the_scenery
Most of Looper was filmed in New Orleans and nearby Thibodaux, Louisiana (and some in not so nearby Shanghai China).
Rian Johnson has said that he stole Joe's character arc from Rick's arc in Casablanca, so it's fitting that he also borrows La Belle Aurore from Casablanca as well. It's the name of the café in Paris where Rick and Ilsa last see each other before the Nazis invade.
The exterior for the club La Belle Aurore where the loopers hang out in Looper was shot on Rampart St.
the warehouse
from the doors, jim morrison, the grateful dead posted in music by pete_nice
Opened on January 30, 1970, the Warehouse was one of the premier venues for rock music in New Orleans for several years. The first band to play the Warehouse was Fleetwood Mac, with the Grateful Dead playing the second night. The Dead were arrested for drug possession that opening weekend, and this experience was immortalized in their song, "Truckin'."
Jim Morrison's last live show with The Doors was here on December 12, 1970. Morrison slammed the microphone repeatedly into the floorboards, breaking through the stage, then sat down and refused to perform. Five months later he was dead in a Paris bathtub.
The Warehouse was demolished in April 1989.
banksy’s umbrella girl
from banksy posted in art and design by nevereatshreddedwheat
Banksy's umbrella girl was put up in 2008 around the anniversary of Katrina on the side of the drop-in center on the corner of North Rampart and Kerlerec in New Orleans. As far as I know, this one still exists, protected by a sheet of plexiglass.
