The Boss transferred from St. Rose of Lima School to Freehold High School when he entered the ninth grade.
Springsteen graduated in 1967, but skipped his own graduation. Old teachers described him as, "a loner, who wanted nothing more than to play his guitar."
In 2006, he was inducted into the Freehold High School Hall of Fame.

From kindergarten to 8th grade, Bruce Springsteen attended school here (1954 to 1963). Later, the Boss would recollect being at odds with the structure of Catholic school, but having it lead to a "very active spiritual life." Traces of Irish-Catholic hymns can be heard in some of his work.
The Boss came back to the school to play a benefit acoustic show in the gymnasium on Nov. 8, 1996, and only Freehold residents were allowed to purchase tickets.

Doug and Adele Springsteen moved Bruce and his sister, Ginny, here around 1955. The Springsteens lived on the left side of the duplex for about eight years. It was here that Springsteen saw Presley on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1956. A week later, he rented his first guitar from Freehold Music Center on Main Street.
In 1984, Springsteen did a photo shoot here that included a shot of him leaning next to a tree. It appeared in the Born in the U.S.A. liner notes.

This address is where Bruce Springsteen first lived until he was six years old. The house was torn down to make room for a parking lot for the St. Rose of Lima church.
The Springsteen (surname is from Dutch, meaning "jump stone") family was Roman Catholic and attended the church next door- St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
