owl farm

from hunter s. thompson posted in literature by pete_nice

In late 1967, Hunter S. Thompson used the royalties from Hell's Angels to purchase a property and home outside of Woody Creek, CO. He named it Owl Farm, and often referred to it as his "fortified compound" (located down the road from this address).

On February 20, 2005, Hunter S. Thompson died at Owl Farm from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was 67 years old.

His funeral ceremony was held on the same property on August 25th of that year, when his ashes were shot out of a canon that was mounted atop a 153-foot (47 m) tower shaped like a double-thumbed fist clutching a peyote button- the symbol used for his "Freak Power" run for sheriff.
