Woodstock (1970)

Widely regarded as one of the most innovative guitarists in music history, Johnny Allen Hendrix (later James Marshall “Jimi” Hendrix) was born on November 27, 1942 in Seattle, WA.  In the short 27 years of his life, Hendrix redefined the possibilities of the electric guitar as an instrument, while expanding the capacity of an artist to affect social change.

Multicultural in appearance and supernatural in performance, Hendrix burned guitars, dropped acid, oozed sex and rebellion, hated war and conformity, and generally scared the living hell out of straight-laced America.  He did all of this while creating a body of music that still stands as completely unique and wildly inventive.  Here’s a list of locations related to the life of Jimi Hendrix.

locations from what about bob?

“Dr. Marvin, guess what? Ahoy,
I sail, I’m a sailor, I sail!”

The 1991 comedy film What About Bob? follows the several-phobia suffering Bob Wiley (Bill Murray) as he latches onto his psychiatrist Dr. Leo Marvin (Richard Dreyfuss) and the Marvin family.

Written by Tom Schulman (Dead Poets Society, Medicine Man) and directed by Frank Oz (Little Shop of Horrors, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and the voice of Yoda and Fozzie Bear), the film has been remade several times including the Tamil film Thenali (2000) and the Hindi film Deewana Mastana (1997).

elvis presley in memphis

Elvis Presley’s family moved to Memphis, TN from Tupelo, MS in search of a better life.  The young Elvis would have been 13 years old when he arrived in Memphis on September 12, 1948.  The city of Memphis became synonymous with Elvis, and a number of locations from those early days (before Elvis became an icon) still survive today.  Here is a list of Elvis-related locations in the Memphis area.
