Typically a place where children can play in thefountain, this location is where distraught fans of Nirvana gathered to mark the death of Kurt Cobain on April 10, 1994. Later, fans gathered to mourn the death of Alice in Chains’ singer Layne Staley on April 20, 2002.

It was at his memorial where Cobain’s wife Courtney Love read through (while cursing) Cobain’s suicide note.

trianon ballroom

Built in 1927, the Trianon Ballroom was a dance hall that featured top jazz era orchestras including those led by Seattle’s Vic Meyer and Gay Jones. Jones recorded the town’s first ever jazz record.

Victor Myers had a residency at the ballroom for several years, and the venue was famous for its disregard for Prohibition laws. Myers went on to run for political office, and would campaign by driving a beer wagon through the city (during Prohibition) while his band played "Happy Days Are Here Again".

Today, the Trianon Ballroom is an office building.

the vogue

Nirvana played its first Seattle show in this former rock venue, opening for Blood Circus in April 1988.

This location now houses the rock and roll hair salon Vain.

The Vogue moved to 1516 11th Ave. on Capitol Hill, but at last check is currently closed.

Pearl Jam and Soundgarden used to rehearse in the basement of this former blacksmithing studio, where many of Pearl Jam’s stage sets were created. The forge’s alleyway was a hangout for artists and punks.

the crocodile

The Crocodile (formerly known as The Crocodile Cafe, or The Croc) has been a fixture of the Seattle music scene since 1991.

Some of the bands that have played this club include Nirvana, Pearl Jame, Alice in Chains, Neutral Milk Hotel, and too many for to mention. Death Cab for Cutie got its start here.

Scenes from the 1995 Jennifer Jason Leigh film Georgia were shot at the venue.
