Formerly serving Mexico City and the second largest landfill in the world, Bordo Poniente was also the filming location for the dystopian Los Angeles of the future in the 2013 film Elysium.
The crew filmed at the dump for two weeks, and the 975 acre landfill was unceremoniously closed shortly after the shoot. Today, Bordo Poniente is undergoing a clean-up effort from the Mexican government and the Clinton Foundation.
