In the 1969 film Midnight Cowboy, Ratzo (Dustin Hoffman) is giving Joe Buck (Jon Voight) the low-down of the he-whore game when he is almost hit by a taxi cab at this intersection.
While the crew had hired an actor to drive a taxi cab for a near collision, this particular cab was not part of the filming. Hoffman, the consummate professional, wanted to yell "We're filming a movie here," but didn't break character and instead said the line, "I'm walking here!" while slapping the hood of the taxi.
