Located in Janis Joplin's hometown of Port Arthur, TX, the Museum of the Gulf Coast has a permanent display on the second floor dedicated to the iconic singer.
The exhibit features Joplin artwork, personal effects, photographs and memorabilia, and even a replica of Joplin's painted Porsche. There's high-tech touch screens to absorb Janis Joplin audio-video, and frequent screenings of the Joplin documentary, Southern Discomfort. The Budokan (or the Nippon Budokan a.k.a. Martial Arts Hall built for the 1964 Summer Olympics) is a 14,000+ person indoor arena in Tokyo. In Japan they know it mainly as a pro wrestling venue, but Americans might recognize it as that place where a lot of live albums were recorded.
Cheap Trick recorded Cheap Trick at Budokan here in 1978, which became their best-selling album. Bob Dylan's live album Bob Dylan at Budokan was released in 1979.
Dozens of musicians recorded live albums here, and the ones who creatively titled them Live at Budokan (or Live at the Budokan) include Blur, Mr Big (who later returned in 2009 with their album Return to Budokan), Ozzy Osbourne, Bryan Adams, Sheryl Crow and probably many more.
