Back before CGI was used to make movies completely devoid of humanity, they would construct elaborate film sets to fulfill a director's vision.
Elstree Studios is a term used to describe any of the film studios that were based in the towns of Borehamwood and Elstree in Hertfordshire, England, since film production begun in 1927.
Many directors have shot their films here. George Lucas famously clashed with studio hands over his puzzling sets and bizarre methods for Star Wars.
Kubrick shot all of the interiors for The Shining here, with chilling results.

The large outcropping from the beach, called Haystack Rock, appears in the background as the Goonies approach the Lighthouse Lounge.

The lighthouse that is featured to the far left of the doubloon is Tillamook Rock Lighthouse (a.k.a. Terrible Tilly). The rock in the middle of the doubloon appears to have been blue-screened in. The far right hole is the Lighthouse Lounge.
