video archives
from quentin tarantino, roger avary posted in movies by corporate_sunshine
Starting in the early 80's, Video Archives was a video rental store staffed by film fanatics that carried a diverse selection of films: Hollywood blockbusters, documentaries, foreign films (organized by country, unheard of at that time), cult films and porn.
Quentin Tarantino worked at this video store while he wrote Reservoir Dogs. Co-writer of Pulp Fiction and director of Killing Zoe, Roger Avary, also worked at the store.
The long, film-obsessed conversations of the Video Archives employees were reworked and expanded into dialogue of Tarantino's films.
In the early 90's, Video Archives moved two doors down to 1808 Sepulveda. By early 1994, Video Archives had shut down for good.
porterville church

If you thought Creedence Leonore Gielgud's house looks more like a church, you're right! It is a church!
Built in 1898, this Mormon church was added to the Utah State Register of Historic Sites in 1971. More importantly, the church was filmed in 1989 for this cult classic.
The brick exterior is the sole remnant after a fire in 2000.

memorial stadium

In the middling comedy Yes Man, Carl (Jim Carrey) and Allison (Zooey Deschanel) take a spontaneous trip to Lincoln, NE. At one point, they attend a University of Nebraska Cornhuskers football game at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.
Although the aerial crowd shots of Memorial Stadium (Lincoln) are accurate, the close-ups were shot with Carrey, Deschanel and over 700 extras at L.A.’s Memorial Coliseum. Carrey, dressed as a Cornhusker, entertained the extras by attempting a few punts in the empty stadium.
Memorial Stadium (Lincoln) was dedicated on October 20, 1923, and is so named for the 3,839 Nebraskans who died in World War II, the 225 in Korea, and the 422 in Vietnam.
The stadium holds an ongoing NCAA record of 317 consecutive sellouts, which began in 1962. On game day, Memorial Stadium is the third largest city in Nebraska with a population of around 87,000 (only Omaha and Lincoln are larger).
katz’s delicatessen
from when harry met sally posted in movies by elvis_crabs
Katz's Delicatessen was the filming location for the legendary orgasm-faking scene with Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal from When Harry Met Sally.
Although Billy Crystal came up with the classic punchline ("I'll have what she's having"), the scene came out of conversations between director Rob Reiner and writer Nora Ephron. Rob Reiner did not initially believe Ephron's assertion on the manner, but after grilling female members of the staff in the production office, he was convinced.
Katz's Delicatessen now has a sign that hangs over the table that was featured in When Harry Met Sally. Katz's was also the site of Johnny Depp's character meeting with an FBI contact in the film Donnie Brasco, and was also featured in the films Across the Universe, Mary and Max, Enchanted, We Own the Night, and the TV show Law and Order.
