Formerly known as the Stanley Theater, the Benedum Center for the Performing Arts was constructed in 1927 and restored in 1987. The 2,800 seat theater was placed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 1986.
Bob Marley played his last live concert here on September 23, 1980, before his death in 1981.
Prince kicked off his Controversy Tour in 1981 at the Stanley.
