Straddling the border between Arizona and Utah, Monument Valley's picturesque rock formations and stark landscapes were the backdrops for many of the scenes in the classic Spaghetti Western film by Sergio Leone, Once Upon a Time in the West (1968).
The film stars Charles Bronson as "Harmonica", who Leone referred to as "the greatest actor I ever worked with." Once Upon a Time... features a soundtrack by the legendary composer Ennio Morricone, which later inspired Dangermouse's Rome album.
Monument Valley has been a featured location in a slew of films, tv shows, music, books, comics, and video games. A popular lookout point is named after John Ford since he filmed nine films here (John Ford's Point).
For Once Upon a Time..., locations were split between Monument Valley and Spain. The scene with the man hanging from the arch was shot here in Monument Valley. The arch was constructed for the film, and the base remnants remain. Take nothing but pictures...
