eilean donan castle

from highlander posted in movies by pete_nice

The grounds of the Eilean Donan Castle are believed to have been settled as early as the 6th century, when the Picts of Scotland built a stone fort at the location.

The tower house was built in the 14th century, then blown up by the English Navy in 1719, then reconstructed from 1919 to 1932.

The castle was also home to the Clan MacLeod in the 1986 film Highlander.

silvercup studios

from highlander (1986) posted in movies by pete_nice

The long-winded and laborious climax to the hit fantasy/swashbuckling film Highlander ends on the roof of Silvercup Studios when Macleod fights The Kurgan, destroying the landmark sign in the process (but not really).

Silvercup Studios is a collection of thirteen shooting stages, and several TV shows are filmed here: 30 Rock, Gossip Girl, White Collar, A Gifted Man, Person of Interest and Unforgettable. THe HBO series Girls filmed their first season at Silvercup. Other HBO shows filmed at this location include The Sopranos, Sex & the City, as well as ABC's Ugly Betty.

east river park amphitheater

from wild style posted in movies by chewing_the_scenery

The East River Park Amphitheater in New York's Lower East Side was the site of the classic hip-hop movie Wild Style's final concert featuring The Fantastic Romantic 5, Chief Rocker Busy Bee and The Rock Steady Crew. Wild Style, from 1982, was about graffiti artist Zoro, played by real life graffiti pioneer Lee Quiñones. You can hear samples of the movie in "A to the K" by Cypress Hill, "Genesis" by Nas, "Professor Booty" by Beastie Boys and probably lots more that I don't know about.

The amphitheater, built in 1941, had fallen into disrepair, but it's since been remodeled and once again hosts public concerts.

johnie’s coffee shop

from miracle mile, reservoir dogs, the big lebowski posted in movies by chewing_the_scenery

Not to be confused with the popular filming location Johnie’s Broiler, Johnie's Coffee Shop in Los Angeles is also an example of the futuristic Googie style of architecture that dates back to the 1950s.

It was featured most prominently in Miracle Mile when Anthony Edwards takes a random phone call in the phone booth outside and learns about an upcoming nuclear war.

It's also where Tim Roth (Mr. Orange/Freddy) meets with his supervisor Holdaway in Reservoir Dogs after he gets on the inside with Joe's crew and where Walter and The Dude talk about the severed toe in The Big Lebowski.

Other movies where you can see the restaurant, which closed in 2000, are Volcano, American History X, City of Angels, Very Bad Things and probably many more.
