The 1967 film Bonnie and Clyde shocked the world when Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway died in slow-motion as a hail of bullets riddled their bodies.
The real outlaws, Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker, were ambushed at this intersection by a possee of lawmen at 9:15 am on May 23, 1934. The possee had specially ordered Browning Automatic Rifles with armor piercing rounds for the occasion.
The outlaw couple had approximately 130 rounds shot at them, with various accounts stating that they were each hit with between 25-50 bullets.
At this location is a marker dedicated to the event that has been badly damaged by souvenir hunters.
